Dr Nathan Beu (ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide) will present his research on post-error slowing, the tendency to respond more slowly after making a mistake, which has long been interpreted as evidence of adaptive cognitive control. Drawing on converging evidence from brain stimulation, psychophysiology, genetics, and behavioural testing across over 2000 participants, he will present an alternative account: post-error slowing might reflect attention network switching following error detection, reframing our understanding of this phenomenon from an adaptive mechanism to a marker of neural system vulnerability.
