Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all �Ӱ�ֱ��ns to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in �Ӱ�ֱ��.

The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Bridging Now to Next calls on all �Ӱ�ֱ��ns to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.

In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman , native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

�Ӱ�ֱ��’s history of reconciliation is not a linear one, we have made great strides and experienced disappointing setbacks.

Twenty-five years ago, brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous leaders in a historic call for reconciliation. We continue that work in 2025, inviting all �Ӱ�ֱ��ns to join us in Bridging Now to Next – building a more united and respectful nation.

Tuesday 27th May – Kaurna Learning Circle @ North Terrace Campus

Join the �Ӱ�ֱ�� of Adelaide community for a Welcome to Country by Cliffy, a proud Kaurna man to kick off Reconciliation Week. This practice dates back 65 000 years and is performed to honour the land upon which an event is being held in �Ӱ�ֱ��. Free barista coffee and hot chocolate will be available from 3:30pm-5:00pm alongside this event.

Tuesday 27th May – Ingkarni Wardli Atrium @ North Terrace Campus

We encourage all staff and students to participate in a screening of ‘In My Blood It Runs” from 5:00pm immediately following the Welcome to Country. This documentary follows the story of ten-year-old Dujuan, a child-healer whose family fights to give him a strong Arrernte education alongside his western education. We walk with him as he grapples with these pressures, shares his truths and somewhere in-between finds space to dream, imagine and hope for his future self. Popcorn with ingredients such as �Ӱ�ֱ��n native Wattleseeed & Mrytlee will be provided to participants.

Wednesday 28th May – Join Us for a Cultural Workshop with Robert Taylor

Step into the rich traditions and stories of the Kaurna people with Robert Taylor, respected senior Kaurna man and cultural custodian. In this engaging and informative workshop, Robert shares his deep knowledge of Kaurna language, customs, and connection to Country. Through storytelling, discussion, and hands-on learning, participants will gain a greater understanding of Aboriginal culture and history from a First Nations perspective. A meaningful experience for all ages, this workshop fosters respect, awareness, and reconciliation.

This 60-minute workshop will explore Indigenous culture, colonisation and history. 3pm – 4pm.

Wednesday 28th May – Hub Central, North Terrace

Drop in for 5-10 minutes to this silk painting workshop in conjunction with Temaana Sanderson-Bromley. Temaana is a young Adnyamathanha, Narungga and Wangkangurru Yarluyandi man from the Flinders Ranges, Yorke Peninsula and Simpson Desert, who founded Mardlaapa Designs. The finished product will be available on display during NAIDOC. Immerse yourself in creativity and connect with others while expressing your artistic side. Don’t miss out on this colourful journey! 12-2pm.

Native flavoured Popcorn and ice-cream will be available to students between 12pm – 2pm.

Thursday 29th May – Roseworthy Student Hub

The “In My Blood it Runs” documentary will be displayed between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. Drop past during lunch and watch some of the film, and take some native popcorn home with you.

Friday 30th May – UniBar @ North Terrace Campus

Join us for an afternoon of knowledge sharing, sausage sizzles, and live music at UniBar. Jack Buckskin will perform a Welcome to Country and play the Didgeridoo, before we welcome CASM back to the stage to perform songs from the Kaurna Song Book. We’ll also welcome a panel discussion offering stories on South �Ӱ�ֱ��n First Nations Voice to Parliament. And of course, don’t forget your free sausage sizzle for attending. We’ll see you there!

Celebrating the Achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduates at the �Ӱ�ֱ�� of Adelaide

Mankurriapinthi, Bring together in Kaurna language, is the name of the new Future Making for First Nations Strategy of the �Ӱ�ֱ�� of Adelaide. Led by Professor Steve Larkin, Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Engagement and supported by Wirltu Yarlu, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander unit of the �Ӱ�ֱ�� of Adelaide, the new strategy is an evidence-based approach document that provides the opportunity for the whole �Ӱ�ֱ�� community to critically reflect upon its role and responsibility in ensuring First Nations access, participation, and success.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2024: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud

Each year in July, communities across �Ӱ�ֱ�� come together to commemorate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during NAIDOC Week. While serving as reminders of the vibrant traditions and tenacity of First Nations communities, these celebrations also offer a platform for the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and the recognition of First Nations voices.

Wirltu Yarlu Students Prepare for the 2024 Indigenous Nationals

The �Ӱ�ֱ�� of Adelaide, Wirltu Yarlu and Adelaide �Ӱ�ֱ�� Sport and Fitness lights up with anticipation and pride as twelve of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students take off on an exciting journey to the 2024 Indigenous Nationals. Participating in a powerful cultural send-off performed by Kaurna Performer Robert Taylor, and Warumunga/Yuggera man David Booth and his sons from the Imbala dance group at the Kaurna Learning Circle, our students, alongside Uncle Rod O'Brien and Leesa Ashton, are ready to uphold the spirit of Wirltu Yarlu, the Kaurna name for the sea eagle who, according to Kaurna storytelling, is always striving to soar higher.
