Joanne Kanas Memorial Medal

The Joanne Kanas Memorial Medal is awarded twice yearly to graduating Pre Enrolment English Program (PEP) students who demonstrate initiative, teamwork, motivation, collaboration and the development of academic skills.Ìý
The ELC's Academic Management team select the student most worthy of the medal, which is presented at the PEP Completion Ceremony.
Joanne Kanas was the Coordinator of the ELC's Pre Enrolment English Program (PEP) from 2003 to 2008 and following a long period of illness, passed away on 31 August 2011. The Joanne Kanas Memorial Medal honours her legacy of dedication and commitment to the teaching of English language to international students.

Kamulete Espoir Lwando
Espoir is a standout student who exemplifies the values of initiative, integrity, and collaboration. He takes charge of his own learning, often going beyond expectations by seeking out extra resources, applying feedback, and supporting the progress of others. His leadership and creativity have made a positive impact in our PEP learning community, where he encourages cooperation and shared success. Jantaparn Wipawee (Parn)
Parn is an exceptionally diligent student who has demonstrated remarkable progress in all areas of her studies within the PEP program. Parn has confidently embraced a leadership role in the class, consistently showing initiative and responsibility. She is always ready to assist in organising group work and mentoring her fellow students. Parn regularly shared valuable information with her peers on Teams, providing timely reminders about upcoming changes and events, as well as recommending useful independent study resources. Her contributions have been instrumental in fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Parn is an incredibly valued member of the class, both academically and socially, a worthy winner of the Joanne Kanas award, with a bright future ahead of her.

Tang Tzu-Ting (Nevin)
Tzu-Ting, Nevin was a very proactive and engaged student. She demonstrated outstanding leadership in group tasks, supporting and inspiring her peers while also learning from them. Nevin showed maturity and strong organisation, actively reflecting on her time management and making improvements. She embraced opportunities to learn about ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n academic culture, asking insightful questions and seeking support when needed. Beyond the classroom, Nevin took full advantage of university life, joining clubs, participating in Study Adelaide activities, and building friendships across cultures—all of which enriched her experience and strengthened her English skills. Hardworking, respectful, and inclusive, Nevin not only excelled academically but also stepped out of her comfort zone to make the most of her time in Adelaide. Congratulations, Nevin!
