  • Biography/ Background

Zonghan Xie holds the position of Professor in Materials Science and Surface Engineering at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide. Originating from Huaibei, once a small town in the northern region of Anhui Province, Eastern China, he pursued studies in 'Metallic Materials and Heat Treatment' at Northeastern ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, followed by 'Metal Matrix Composites' at Southeast ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. In 2004, he was awarded a PhD in Technical Ceramics from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of New South Wales, supported by the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Government. That same year, Dr. Xie received the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Postdoctoral Fellowship from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Research Council to conduct research on industrial coatings in partnership with the CSIRO Thin Films group in Lindfield, Sydney.

Following positions at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Sydney Dental School and the Centre for Integrated Nanotechnologies at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, USA, Dr. Xie returned to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. There, he established and led an engineering and biological materials research group at ECU in Western ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. In July 2012, he joined the faculty at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, where his research now encompasses engineering and functional coatings, high-strength alloys, and the study of calcified tissues.

In addition to his research, Dr. Xie has contributed to international academic relations as Associate Dean (International) within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. In this role, he oversees the development of strategic partnerships with overseas institutions particularly in East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea.
