Biography/ Background
I am a marine ecologist specialising in marine ecosystem restoration. I combine marine ecology with soical science approaches to support, in particular, the social and ecological restoration of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s lost oyster reefs. My restoration work also includes the recovery of seagrass meadows, kelp forests, and mangroves in multi-species assemblages. Over the past decade I investigated the role of marine habitat-forming species (oysters, mangroves, seagrass) to protect coastal biodiversity from the extremities of climate change, conducting my research along the east coast of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and in Hong Kong.
At The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide I am working with Prof Sean Connell, to enhance South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s blue infrastructure through the restoration of oyster reefs which were once abundant on ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s southern coastline. This project is a collaboration with the South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n government, industry, and community groups, to collectively restore multi-species ecosystems across the state. -
