Uni's research performance shines well above world standard
Friday, 4 December 2015
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has received an outstanding result in the latest national measure of research quality in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, with 82% of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥’s research areas considered to be above or well above world standard.
The latest results of the (ERA) process show strong growth in quality of world-class research at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
Of the 67 individual research areas assessed at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, more than half achieved the maximum rating of 5 (“well above world standard’), up from about one fifth in 2012.
“This is an outstanding result, reflecting great depth of research quality and the huge regard in which the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥’s researchers are held within ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and globally,” says the , Professor Warren Bebbington.
“Indeed, more than 82% of our fields in all were assessed as “above or well above world standard” (rating of 4 or 5), which means we have achieved — and exceeded — the 10-year target in our Strategic Plan Beacon of Enlightenment more than seven years early,” Professor Bebbington says.
“Importantly, each of our five major research Institutes has been associated with the maximum rating of 5 for research quality in their fields.
“While this is a time of congratulations for our researchers, it is also a time to reflect on the enormous potential for our research to make a difference to people’s lives, to health, the environment, business and industry, the economy and to government.”
More than 18,600 individual research outputs by academic staff and affiliates of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide were assessed as part of the latest ERA process, including published papers, authored and edited books, book chapters, conference papers, and creative works.
“We have seen a significant lift in both volume and quality of our research output in recent years, which is consistent with the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s rise in international rankings this year,” Professor Bebbington says.
