Can ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ become a low-carbon energy superpower?
Wednesday, 17 June 2015
A free public lecture at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide will hear from one of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥’s best-known commentators on the economics of energy and climate change, Professor Ross Garnaut AO.
On Tuesday 23 June, Professor Garnaut will present the 2015 Luxton Memorial Lecture at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, entitled: ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥: Energy Superpower of the Low-Carbon World.
He will discuss how, as the world transitions to a low-carbon economy, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ns will get a “second chance at internationally low energy costs”. Managed well, he says this transition could restore and enhance old ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n strengths, this time built on sustainable foundations. These strengths will be especially important in South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, he says.
Professor Garnaut is a Professorial Research Fellow in Economics at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Melbourne and author of a number of influential reports to government, including The Garnaut Climate Change Review (2008) and The Garnaut Review 2011: ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and the Global Response to Climate Change (2011).
