Chinese plant science professor appointed to Uni of Adelaide

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's international reputation for agricultural science will receive a further boost with the appointment of a new joint professorial position between Adelaide and in China.
The appointment will see , Distinguished Professor in plant science in Shanghai Jiao Tong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, dividing his time between China and the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's internationally regarded Waite campus.
Professor Zhang will research key problems in food security, including the generation of more environmentally resilient and productive crops.
He will take up his position at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide in January 2015.
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Mike Brooks, says the new appointment is a highly innovative arrangement between the two universities.
"Professor Dabing Zhang is a first-rate scientist, highly respected in his field, and he brings with him a number of international networks. This is a further example of the deepening of our collaboration with the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, which is China's most successful university in generating research income," Professor Brooks says.
Professor Brooks has just returned from a visit to Shanghai Jiao Tong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, where he met with the university's President, Professor Jie Zhang, as well as key staff in agriculture, life sciences, health and engineering.
