ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide leaves industrial body

Friday, 4 June 1999

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has decided to leave the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) - the organisation that represents 'employers' in the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n university sector.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mary O'Kane, said today that the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ was a unique entity that required a unique approach to industrial issues.

"As we enter a new Enterprise Bargaining round within the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, I am very much focussed on ensuring the best outcomes for our staff and the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ as a whole," she said.

"AHEIA's focus is necessarily on the entire sector which includes a diversity of universities, all with different strengths, weaknesses and priorities.

"I am confident we can advance the interests of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide more effectively outside AHEIA."

The decision means the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ will represent itself before the Industrial Relations Commission and in negotiations with relevant unions.
