ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide to award 11 honorary degrees

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide will recognise the significant contributions of 11 outstanding leaders in their fields during upcoming , from Tuesday 29 April to Wednesday 7 May.

These distinguished professionals and academics will be acknowledged for their achievements and community service as they receive honorary degrees during a week of graduation ceremonies to be held in Bonython Hall.

Among the honorary degree recipients is Dr Cheong Choong Kong, Colombo Plan scholar and ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide graduate, who will be admitted to the degree of Doctor of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ (honoris causa) in recognition of his sustained and remarkable service as an alumnus to management and communication.

Also receiving degrees of Doctor of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ (honoris causa) are Dr Stephen Morton, the Hon Dr John Bannon AO, former Premier of South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, and Associate Professor William (Bill) Griggs AM ASM, one of the most respected Doctors in South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.

Professor Ian North AM and Professor Andrew Watson are being admitted to the degree of Doctor of Arts (honoris causa), and Professor Kym Anderson, one of the world's leading agricultural economists, is being awarded a Doctor of Economics (honoris causa).

ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide alumni Justice Margaret White, Dr Ian Shankland and Professor James Gehling will also be presented honorary degrees. Justice White will be admitted to the degree of Doctor of Law (honoris causa) for her work as a leading member of the legal profession, and Dr Shankland and Professor Gehling will receive a Doctor of Science (honoris causa).

Professor Edward Byrne AC will also be applauded with an admission to the degree of Doctor of Medicine (honoris causa) in recognition of his career as an outstanding researcher and clinician in the field of neuroscience.

ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Warren Bebbington says:
"the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide is proud to honour these exceptional individuals and it is my great pleasure to congratulate them as they receive their awards."

More than 3000 graduates and guests are expected to attend the ceremonies. The speakers will include Yvette Manolas of Woodside Petroleum, Alan Noble of Google ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and New Zealand, Director of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's , and the honorary degree recipients.
