New appointment to guide global education program

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has appointed a new senior manager to take responsibility for helping to build the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s expanding education program on a global scale.
Professor Penny Boumelha, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s Jury Professor of English and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, was today appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education).
Educated at Oxford ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Professor Boumelha is a highly respected researcher and teacher. She is the editor or co-editor of numerous publications, and author of two books on English literature.
She was named in Campus Review's 1996 Independent Teaching Survey as one of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s most respected teachers in English.
The Vice-Chancellor of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, Professor Mary O'Kane, said Professor Boumelha would play an important role as the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ adopted new approaches to learning and teaching.
"The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s approach to education has been changing, with new technologies utilised and an increasing focus on student-centred learning," she said.
"Professor Boumelha's creative and strong leadership will be welcome as we develop internationally relevant and competitive education programs, and build virtual global classrooms.
"Adelaide is well-placed to become a internationally-recognised centre for higher education and this appointment is another step along that path."
