Award-winning percussion team in concert

Twelve percussionists from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's Elder School of Music will perform in concert at 7.30pm on Monday, September 15.

The concert is a warm-up for the 2003 National Eistedfodd in Canberra later this month.

This series of performances by talented and award-winning students will be held at the Madley Dance Space at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's North Terrace Campus. Entry is by gold coin donation.

The performers' ages range from the mid teens to mid 20s, from first- year studies through to Masters. Performers are: Paul Butler, Jamie Adam, Joe Fragnito, Rachel Rodwell, Fleur Green, Katie Seaman, Nicolle Weepers, Ryan Simm, Luke Hague, Peter Spiker, Paul Bachman, and Brett Madigan.

The program will include a drum kit concerto by John Beck performed by Paul Butler, and marimba works by well-known composer and performer Keiko Abe. Also on the bill is a performance by the percussion ensemble, which has been invited to perform at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Percussion Symposium.

The September 15 concert is the group's last performance before leaving for Canberra for the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Percussion Symposium and Eisteddfod 2003, taking place from September 22-27. The Adelaide performers will be accompanied by Elder School of Music lecturer Jim Bailey and percussionist graduate Nick Parnell.

Percussion performers, teachers, students and enthusiasts from all over ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n will travel to Canberra for a sensational week of concerts, workshops and master classes with world-renowned guest artists/teachers.

The Adelaide team's trip to Canberra has been funded by a Helpmann Academy grant made possible through the generous support of AMP Foundation.
