Adelaide wins gold at Southern Uni Games

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has performed strongly at this year's Southern ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Games, winning three gold and three bronze medals.
The Games, held from July 7-10 in Adelaide, featured around 2000 university athletes from South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Victoria and Tasmania.
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide won gold for women's hockey and women's soccer, with the men winning the rugby union 7s competition.
The university also earned bronze in the women's and men's basketball and in ultimate Frisbee.
Pennants were presented to the winning university teams at a closing ceremony last night at the Clipsal Powerhouse.
"We're very pleased with the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s performance at the games," says ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide Team Manager Gloria Chester, who is also Executive Officer of the Sports Association and was on the Games Advisory Board.
"Sport is an important part of student life at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, as it provides many opportunities for students from different areas of study and backgrounds to engage with each other.
"This year's Southern ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Games was a great event, and all staff and students should be proud of our ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s achievements this week."
In all, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has qualified 11 teams to go to the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Games in Newcastle in October.
In addition to the strong performance at the Southern ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Games, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has won three gold medals in the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Universities Table Tennis Championship, held concurrently with the Games.
The gold went to the men's team, men's doubles and men's singles, with silver in the women's team, women's doubles, mixed doubles and men's singles, and bronze in women's singles. That's eight medals from seven events.
