ASIO head giving ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ law lecture

Head of the (ASIO) David Irvine AO will be at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's on Monday evening to present a public lecture, the 2011 John Bray Oration.
Mr Irvine, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s Director-General of Security, will discuss 'Freedom versus Privacy - getting the balance right'.
The John Bray Oration is held by the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's law alumni network, the , in commemoration of the former Chief Justice of South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ (1967 to 1978), graduate and Chancellor of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide (1968 to 1983), Dr John Jefferson Bray.
Mr Irvine has been Director-General of Security and in charge of ASIO since March 2009. Before that he was Director-General of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS), ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s overseas secret intelligence collection agency, from 2003.
He has also held senior positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and has had high level overseas postings including High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.
The 2011 John Bray Oration will be held at Elder Hall, 5.30 for 6pm, Monday 19 September.
