Tuesday, 25 February 2003
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide today announced that retired Chief Superintendent David Eason, formerly Officer in Charge of the Northern Operations Service Coordination branch of the South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Police Force, has been retained as Manager of Security Services at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
Mr Eason, who retired in September 2001 after 42 years service, took up his appointment today.
"This appointment ties in with our very strong commitment to the safety and security of our students and staff at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s four campuses," said Paul Duldig, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s Executive Director, Finance and Infrastructure.
"As announced in October last year, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ is implementing new security measures resulting from a three-month review.
"While the review found that the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has a good track record of security, several recommendations for improvements have been made. This includes
- Freeing up of security officers from non-essential duties so that more officers are available "on the beat"
- Installing more security cameras and alarms on campus
- Improving access control to all buildings
- Working with the Adelaide City Council and South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Police about security issues in the grounds surrounding the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥," Mr Duldig said.
Mr Duldig added the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ is implementing 24-hour security for the first time at its Roseworthy campus for the protection of its staff and students in residence.
Mr Eason said he is looking forward to working with the students, staff and senior management at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
