Uni of Adelaide welcomes New Zealand students

ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Canterbury students arrived this weekend to start their semester-long studies at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide

Students from the in earthquake-affected Christchurch have arrived in Adelaide this afternoon to start their semester-long study at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide.

Around 200 students were welcomed at Adelaide Airport by ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor James McWha, and will start their classes tomorrow, Monday 7 March.

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide offered first and second-year students at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Canterbury the chance to undertake their first semester studies at Adelaide to assist Canterbury in its recovery program. The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Canterbury is currently closed, with a resumption date for teaching not yet set.

The students will study Arts, Commerce or Sciences as part of the study abroad program and their studies will be credited towards their degree at Canterbury.

"The support from ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ staff, alumni and the Adelaide community for this initiative has been tremendous," said Professor McWha. "Staff across the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ have put in an enormous effort in working through all the logistics of bringing such a large group of students to the campus in a very short time.

"These students are being welcomed with open arms and I think everyone is determined to ensure they enjoy their stay with us and find it personally and academically very rewarding. I'm sure all of Adelaide will be with us in helping that happen."
