Focus on broadband rollout challenges

Issues surrounding the widespread rollout of broadband in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ will be the highlight of an international telecommunications conference at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide during December 7-10.

Organised by the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, the (ATNAC) is the major national meeting of researchers in information and communication technology.

Speakers will include leading international and national experts on technical and political aspects of broadband delivery and the future of the Internet.

"The Government's proposed $4.7 billion national broadband network will be one of the largest ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n infrastructure investments ever, bringing a raft of new high speed services to a planned 98% of homes and businesses throughout ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥," said ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's , Conference General Co-Chair.

"With bids for the network closed just last week and the vigorous debate surrounding the bids, there is considerable public interest on the issues to be discussed."

The Conference takes place at the National Wine Centre. The ATNAC 'Broadband Outlook Day' on Monday 8 December focuses on the political and technical challenges facing broadband in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and includes:

• Keynote speakers from the speaking on the international broadband scene, and , Principal Consultant with Ovum Consulting, on opportunities and challenges with the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n National Broadband Network;
  
• Presentations and a Q&A panel with national industry figures from Internode, Telstra, Gartner Research and Alcatel-Lucent;
  
• Technical research and development presentations focussed on the next generation of broadband technologies.
