Defence leaders gather at simulation conference
Friday, 11 July 2008
Leading defence and industry personnel will be in Adelaide next week to discuss the way forward in defence simulation technology and use.
Defence Simulation Week is a joint initiative of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and the UK's and will be held during 14-18 July at the .
The week starts with a one-day defence symposium DEF.NET 2008 on Monday 14 July with keynote speakers including Air Commodore Graham Bentley, Director General , and Kim McCleery, General Manager, Business Development.
The symposium will be followed by a dinner where His Excellency , Governor of South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, will be the guest of honour and speaker.
The inaugural OPNET Defence User Forum will be held on Tuesday 15 July followed by a three-day defence simulation training course, 'Introduction to Modelling and Simulation of Defence Systems'. This course will be jointly delivered by Adelaide and Cranfield universities.
"Simulation allows the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Defence Force to 'test drive' multi-billion-dollar defence systems in a virtual environment before going ahead and building them - reducing the risk of schedule delays and cost over-runs we have seen in some projects," says Professor Michael Rumsewicz, Director of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide's (CDCIN), the organiser of Defence Simulation Week.
"Simulation has become an integral part of the global defence industry and this Defence Simulation Week enables defence leaders and simulation users and developers, vendors and customers, to gather together to share lessons from around the world."
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s Centre for Defence Communications and Information Networking widely consults to government and the defence industry on communication systems analysis and systems modelling and simulation.
Cranfield ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ is the academic provider to the at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, UK. The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide last year signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Cranfield ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ on joint provision of courses and research in defence and security.
