Adelaide and Indonesia launch dual finance degree

Indonesian postgraduate finance students will be offered the chance to complete part of their degree in Adelaide under a new partnership agreement signed between the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and the .

The universities have launched a dual Masters degree program, which will enable Indonesian students to gain two postgraduate degrees, one from Indonesia and one from ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.

Under the program, students from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Indonesia will complete 12 months of their two-year Masters within the at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide as well as 12 months in the Faculty of Economics at their home ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.

Students will be awarded the degree from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and the Master of Science in Management (Finance) degree from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Indonesia on completion of their studies.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, , said the dual degree will provide Indonesia with better qualified graduates to service the rapidly growing financial services market in Asia.

"Indonesia has an urgent need for more skilled professionals to work in the securities and investments industry," Professor Taplin said.

"The expansion of the Indonesian economy requires this industry to be competently and ethically run if the level of investment is to continue to grow in the years ahead.

"High quality finance professionals are in strong demand in Asia, which is home to many of the world's fastest growing economies. Both the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Indonesia and ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide are internationally ranked in the region and produce graduates trained to meet the highest professional standards," he said.

The first students will commence in July this year and transfer to Adelaide in February 2009.

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr , was among the distinguished guests who attended the signing ceremony between the two universities held at the Financial Club in Jakarta on 16 April.

ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide staff at the ceremony included Professor Taplin, , Director of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s ; and Ms Ratna Derina from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s Business School; Ms Kate Harris, Associate Dean (International); and Mr Edwin Leow, Marketing Manager for the Faculty of the Professions.
