Looking at education from a different age
Thursday, 22 June 2000
A new book to be launched at Adelaide ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ today traces the history of four of the most influential private girls schools in early South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
Age of Transition is written by Dr Helen Reid, headmistress of Walford Anglican School for Girls from 1973 to 1991.
It looks at four private girls schools which operated for various lengths of time between 1855 and 1926: Hardwicke House, Unley Park School, Dryburgh House School and Yoothamurra School.
The book also examines how the history of these schools continues to have relevance for education today.
Age of Transition is based on Dr Reid's doctoral thesis as part of her PhD in Education, which she obtained from Adelaide ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ in 1996.
She has also served on the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥'s council since 1998.
What: Adelaide ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Mary O'Kane will launch the book Age of Transition, written by long-time Walford headmistress Dr Helen Reid.
Where: Foyer of the Mitchell Building, Adelaide ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, North Terrace.
When: 5pm, Thursday 22 June.
