Hypothetical energy crisis for think tank forum

A global warming-fuelled energy crisis is the hypothetical scenario for a public event hosted by the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide this Sunday, 23 July.

The (SOS) event will see , , and a panel of scientific experts tasked with finding solutions to this politically charged potential disaster in the year 2010.

Up for debate will be some contentious options - a new natural gas-fuelled or nuclear power station - along
with some more offbeat solutions.

Professor Schneider, from Stanford ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ in California, is internationally recognised as a leading expert in atmospheric research and its implications for environment and society.

The event will be facilitated by Advertiser Editor Melvin Mansell. Other speakers are:

  • is Director of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide. He has won numerous awards including in 2004 a Tall Poppy Award and the Premier's SA Great Award in Science and Technology for outstanding contributions to South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
  • , ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide researcher, worked as a petroleum geologist in the oil industry

with GCA (UK) and Santos. She researches geological storage of carbon dioxide.
  • is a Professor of Chemistry at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide. His interest in the future of humanity is covered in his book Challenged Earth: An Overview of Humanity's Stewardship of Earth.
  • is a lecturer in Geology and Geophysics in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide. His research focuses on understanding the evolution of continental crust.
