Wednesday, 16 January 2019
There's been an upswing in interest from domestic students and record numbers of international students making the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide their university of choice for 2019.
The latest data shows a growth of 6% in all preferences for undergraduate study at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, including a 2% increase in first preferences.
Starting today, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide will make 6% more offers to domestic students for undergraduate degrees compared with 2018. (New offers to be made: 5976; compared with 5659 in 2018).
At the same time, international student numbers are set to reach record levels at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ this year – with more than 10,000 international students across all year levels choosing to study at Adelaide.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Pascale Quester says the increase in demand for places at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide is especially pleasing in light of a declining student market overall.
"To be in a position where more students are choosing to study at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, in a highly competitive and shrinking market for higher education, is a vote of confidence in the educational experience our ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ offers," Professor Quester says.
"At the same time as experiencing an increase in interest from domestic students, we're seeing large numbers of international students wanting to study here at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide. A record number of 10,000 international students will study at our ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ this year, which speaks volumes about the global reputation of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and helps to confirm our status as the truly global university for South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
"We’re attracting students from China, as well as from India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, again at a time of increasing global competition.
"More international students means increased economic prosperity for our State, but the benefits are much broader than that. International students bring a vibrancy to the city of Adelaide that greatly enhances our cultural and social fabric. At the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, we're excited to be playing our role in helping to create a vibrant, globally connected 'university city'."
