IPAS Researchers Secure Major Funding in AEA Innovate Grants
IPAS researchers have achieved significant success in the first round of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s Economic Accelerator (AEA) Innovate Program, with two of The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s six awarded projects led by members.
Professor Andre Luiten, Director of IPAS, was awarded $4.96 million for his project “Maturing Quantum Sensors to Match Real-World Needs.†In partnership with QuantX Labs, this project will accelerate the development of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s world-leading quantum sensor technology. The aim is to make these sensors smaller, more affordable, and more robust, ensuring they are ready for sovereign manufacturing and deployment in critical sectors such as defence, resources, and navigation.
Professor Robert McLaughlin secured $4.29 million for his project “Developing ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Meat into the World’s Best Product with an Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Meat Scanner.†Working with Miniprobes, Robert’s team is creating a cutting-edge device that integrates a tiny optical fibre camera, near-infrared imaging, and AI to accurately assess meat quality without causing any damage. This innovation presents a significant opportunity to enhance the competitiveness and premium value of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n sheep and beef products on the global market.
