New Adelaide-Nottingham Alliance Theme Lead appointed

Associate Professor Craig Johns
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide is pleased to announce the appointment of as the Theme Lead for Global Food Systems in the Adelaide-Nottingham Alliance (ANA).
Craig is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics’ (ABLE) School of Economics and Public Policy (SEPP), as well as the Associate Director, Agribusiness Innovation, Centre for Global Food and Resources, and CEO of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s Agribusiness Advisory Board.
Since joining the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ in 2011, Craig has been involved in international development projects in various agriculture, marine and forestry sectors across Fiji, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, PNG, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. His early training in food technology, quality management and business management, coupled with his appreciation for the roles of industry and government, enable him to understand key constraints and how industry development can lead to wider benefits for all stakeholders.
Throughout his career at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Craig has received several awards, including:
- SEPP Teaching Excellence Award for Team Teaching – 2024.
- Commendation for Grant Excellence for the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics – 2024.
- ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Commendation for the Enhancement and Innovation of Student Learning - 2024.
- Executive Dean Award for Vision, Service, Culture, Excellence in External Engagement – 2020.
- Executive Dean Award – 2019.
- Pro Vice Chancellor Internationalisation Excellence Award – 2018.
His primary research interest is analysing agribusiness and agroforestry value chains and the resulting value chain improvement activities across the industry. He has global food experience from production to consumption from the perspective of both the private and public sectors. Craig has held roles as a general manager of a successful food production company, a program manager in charge of allocating national value chain funding and a senior business consultant delivering on international value chain projects. Craig’s experience has enabled him to improve engagement and interaction between the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and leading agribusiness companies for the benefit of research and teaching activities.
Craig’s appointment as Theme Lead brings valuable expertise from the ABLE faculty and agribusiness innovation into the Alliance, helping to expand and foster new opportunities for engagement and collaboration.
He has assumed the role as Theme Lead from Associate Professor Chris Ford, School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, who has moved into a new role as Graduate Research Education Lead for the ANA.
